Blocks: #28 (and through it the control track)

The README's install section is about geek (geek.tailb2e8f2.ts.net, illogical.widgets.wtf, 100.71.195.119:7443, the wisp and Cloudflare token paths). Write a quickstart that works for anyone, and move geek's setup somewhere else.

Decided 2026-10-01: pitch the core plus Tailscale, with the extras as optional advanced setup.

Quickstart (README, and the page's install section)

  • Install (the one-liner, brew, from source), then open http://127.0.0.1:7681.
  • Remote access: Tailscale is required to reach it from the phone or another machine. tailscale serve setup, and the owner check (the node's login, --owner). Say plainly that it isn't meant to be on the open internet.
  • Phone: add to home screen, Notify this device.
  • The CLI in one screen: run, tail, wait, send, agent.
  • Agent blocks: installing the pinned ACP adapters (npm install --prefix ~/.local/share/illogical/agents/...).
  • Linux vs macOS: what the Mac doesn't do yet (pane programs don't survive a daemon restart; no VMs).

Advanced (separate doc, e.g. docs/advanced.md)

  • VM tabs/panes and sandboxes: need wispd and its token.
  • Browser blocks on ports: a wildcard DNS record to the tailnet IP, a Cloudflare token for DNS-01, --block-listen/--block-domain. Written generically, with geek's values as the worked example.
  • Other hosts, dial-out hosts, share links, synced history.

Housekeeping

  • Move the milestone-by-milestone status out of the README's top (it's a changelog) into docs/ or a CHANGELOG, so the README opens with what it is and how to install it.
  • Geek-specific setup moves to docs/geek.md (or stays in PLAN's one-time setup).

Done when

  • Someone who isn't you can follow the README from nothing to a pane on their phone without asking anything.

Done. README is now what it is, install (one-liner, brew, source), a quickstart (open it, Tailscale for phone and other machines, the CLI, agent adapters) and macOS notes. Moved out: docs/features.md (the milestone list, host names made generic), docs/cli.md, docs/advanced.md (service and logs, pane environment, Claude Code hooks, VMs via wisp — noted as not published —, browser blocks over loopback or the tailnet, agents in VMs, a Mac or sandbox as another host, iTerm2), docs/development.md (build from source, releasing, CI runners, testing iTerm2, layout, lessons), docs/geek.md (the real setup as a worked example).
